brillient! is a boutique investment publishing house. It specialises in providing innovative, independent solutions to the challenge of effectively communicating complex investment information. brillient! does this by collaborating with researchers, authors, thought leaders and investment managers to communicate with different specialist groups within the Australian and New Zealand wealth management communities.

Established in 2002, it is headed by Graham Rich, Publisher, and Deirdre Keown, Managing Editor & Producer. They have, collectively, over thirty five years of relevant and successful experience in publishing investment information services.

Our publications

brillient! has two core publications:

PortfolioConstruction Forum is the brillient! flagship Australian publication, providing pillars for building better quality investor portfolios. PortfolioConstruction Forum is unique in the Australasian market as the first and only independent resource centre of leading and emerging portfolio construction information and tools to help those who design, build and manage investor portfolios. Importantly, PortfolioConstruction Forum is neither retail nor wholesale in focus - it is for any portfolio construction practitioner. PortfolioConstruction Forum features leading investment professionals, researchers, academics, asset consultants and our Members, presenting research on contemporary portfolio construction issues - markets, asset allocation, investment product selection and blending, and investor parameters. It is also a forum for debate on emerging portfolio construction ideas and products, whose time has not quite yet come, and which may have difficulty being aired and debated - creating an environment in which undiscovered gems can become valued. But it's not all talk - we are equally committed to providing a range of practical portfolio construction tools, to allow our Members to implement better quality investor portfolios. PortfolioConstruction Forum has three integrated pillars for building better quality investor portfolios: our Journal, our Conference and our Tools. GRAHAM RICH – Publisher

Graham is credited as a pioneer of the Australian and New Zealand managed funds industries, and retail managed funds research in particular, having commenced his financial services career in 1975 and his investment publishing business over 25 years ago. He is the brillient! Publisher.

In 1983, through his private company Fiduciary Ltd, he launched the first financial planning firm in New Zealand. Over the next 20 years prior to establishing brillient! in 2002, Graham built and sold a number of innovative businesses in Australia and New Zealand – offering financial advice support services and publications, including research, magazines, software and training – as well as providing strategic planning and marketing services to many more. In 1985, he also initiated and was the founding chairman of New Zealand's financial planning association, of which he is a life member. In the research sphere, Graham founded and was for 18 years, CEO and publisher of FPG Research, the first retail fund ratings company in Australia and New Zealand. During this time, he initiated and introduced fund star ratings to the marketplace, and then some years later, changed the company name to Morningstar. Graham grew the company to its peak where, at the time of his departure in late 2001, it dominated the retail managed funds data and ratings arena in Australia and New Zealand.

Graham is known for his innovation, independence and entrepreneurial flair, and is a regularly sought after speaker and media commentator on wealth management and its trends in Australia and New Zealand.

DEIRDRE KEOWN – Managing Editor & Producer

Deirdre is the brillient! Managing Editor and Producer, responsible for the day-to-day publishing functions of brillient! This includes product development, management, publication, distribution and promotion of the brillient! print, web, tools and events services.

Deirdre has worked in the Australian and New Zealand wealth management industries since 1993. Following two years as a marketing analyst with a New Zealand funds management company, Deirdre began working with Fiduciary Ltd, a New Zealand-based provider of a range of services to the financial advisory industry. Her role included participating in and then leading the marketing services team for Fiduciary's research, training, software and magazine businesses. From 1997 to 2001, Deirdre was Head of Publishing first at FPG Research and then at the same business when it became known as Morningstar Australia and New Zealand. In this role she was responsible for product development, management, distribution, and subscriber training, along with publication, public relations, and subscriber communications in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, she managed the database operations, providing fund data on some 6,000 funds to 80% of buyers of managed funds data in Australia and New Zealand. She was also part of the team that created the first star ratings model for funds in Australia and New Zealand.

While Deirdre held these responsibilities, Morningstar became the most prominent and respected retail funds research brand in Australia and New Zealand.

Deirdre is known for the rare combination of exceptional analytical and communication skills across the wealth management space. This, combined with her passion for publishing and lateral thinking, led to her part in the 2002 establishment of brillient!, a specialist investment publishing house.

Deirdre has a Masters in Commerce with first class honours, with majors in statistics and marketing.
